Along with rocks, I like all sorts of arts and crafts, and I love to work with epoxy resin. I attempted a resin “bloom” on an art tray to take part in a collaboration with some resin artist friends. My anxiety climbed with the temperature of the resin, but I want to try this again!

Hey everybody, it’s me, Betty. I’m going to do what’s called a bloom today in this tray. And you’re you might be new to resin, so you might not know what a bloom is, but basically, we’re going to put down a layer of clear once this resin gets to a specific temperature. It’s like 100° or so. And then I’m going to mix up a specific weight of white pigment.
And we’re going to do a design of white on the clear. And then let that do its thing. It sort of creates itself. You have don’t have a whole lot of control over it. But anyway, I’ll see you when this resin is at its temperature.
That’s what this is for. So, right now, yeah, this resin’s super cold. It’s only at like 66°, so it’s going to be a minute. We’re going to mix up about 80, maybe about 80 mls of white. We’re just going to use one drop or so.
Well, maybe two. It just depends. Two or three. Yeah. Yeah.
I don’t know what I’m doing. Okay. Okay. My resin is Whoa. Sorry.
Sorry. Sorry. My resin is just about at 90°. So, let’s mix up some white. I’m going to put just a tiny bit of this rainbow aurora powder in here with the white for fun.
Just this little bit. This is called cosmic rainbow. And then I’m going to use this Let’s Resin Ocean white. And I’m just going to put in about one drop first and see what happens. Oh jeez, it’s just sort of like trying to come out on me though.
Um, okay. Stop. I’m going to put this in and see if I can’t mix it up and um see what color we get. See if we how white we get. I guess I’ll just let that Is that white enough?
Putting a little tiny tinge more. Resin is at 93. So, let’s pour a clear layer in. So, let’s do some cool colors. This is blueberry.
Let’s do a little bit of forget me not. Oh, I don’t need to put the lid back on. And then I want to do watermelon and rose. So here’s rose. Rose is really weird.
really bright. One, two, three, four, five. Oh, okay. And an extra bonus one. Oh, and then this is some watermelon.
Do some more blueberry. Whoa. This would never happen to Amy. I’m going to do another drop in each of these out here. Whoops.
Jesus. Lord. Beep. Beep. Beep.
Okay. Uh maybe more for a little more forget me not and a little yellow. Even though it probably will not do a whole lot for us, but let’s see. My white’s really warm. Jesus.
Hopefully, it’s white enough. I’m going to try to use my little cup and just squeeze it down. What Amy does this swirl type thing with her colors. So, I’m just going to do a little bit of that. I’m trying not to touch the bottom, but I don’t know if that’s even a thing at this point or not.
Looks cool, right? Okay, I guess we do the white now. Shoot. Okay. Um, she just did swirls in her last one, so that’s what I’m going to do.
Well, the last bloom I watched tutorial. Oh jeez. Oh jeez. Oh jeez. Oh jeez.
This is way too big. Oh my god. This is not Oh my god. That That was not Okay, hold on. Let me uh I’m going to put some white in this white cup so that I can maybe have a little more control.
This is why I didn’t try a piping bag. frick. Okay, I’m gonna try a just I’m just going to pretend I didn’t try this already. She does a thicker line than what that first one was. I don’t know why it’s spinning around like that.
And I don’t know what’s going to happen. Like this little extra wiggle is going to do something. I don’t know if I want that. My stream isn’t even. Jesus.
Oh lord, we have This is going to be ridiculous. Oh man. Golly Lord. You know what? Fine.
I knew this was going to be a comedy show anyway. All right. I feel like that’s enough. I mean, I screwed that up royally. Um, and then typically they do something like an inner and out.
They fix these little blobs. Y’all know. Okay. Uh, in or out? How do I It all goes in anyway.
So, I’m just going to go out. Oh, I went too far down. So, there’s Oh, Three. Good lord, this is insane. I should have practiced on something small.
This is stupid. Um um okay. I don’t know what else to do. Um I think that’s about it. Like let’s burn off the bubbles and then we’ll do a time lapse and it is what it is.
Feel like I didn’t do one here and I need to right. I feel like this light is kind of screwing us up. Turn that off. Wow. That was a lot of I knew I was going to panic anyway.
Is this going to be hideous? I mixed some blue mica powder with some black pigment paste just to back this piece. I wish it were a little bit darker. Um, but we’ll be back tomorrow to unmold this. Um, yeah.
I, you know, I don’t know uh how I feel about it, honestly. I don’t hate it. Couple bubbles. Bummer. I just want to try it again and give it a give it another try.
