Let’s cut a special rock! Hop aboard the USS Unhinged with me while I explain what made me cry.

I cut a special rock that I believe is siltstone. I’m calling this one my Kintsugi stone, because the fractures have been healed by a calcite or silicate chalcedony material. I also tell a story about something that broke my heart this weekend; if you suspect it will make you sad, please mute that part.

hi nice to meet you you can call me Betty I’ve been wondering what to do with this rock for months I was afraid cutting it would ruin it but here we are my curiosity won let’s see what’s inside I picked this up beach combing the Oregon coast it’s a super heavy dense rock it acts a bit hydrophobic

like siltstone I marked it with a piece of tape to try to stay on track with my cut okay buckle up let’s get to the unhinged part of the story I really love all living creatures and I make it a point to help them when I can I don’t want to cause any unnecessary suffering one of our

neighbors reported that they’d seen rats so we all decided to try to help and traps were put out on our property we also put out security cameras to see what kind of activity we were getting so this little wren showed up on the cameras eating the bait out of the rat traps we ran outside and set the

traps off to prevent him from getting caught in one but one of the traps was still out with a dog food bait and we didn’t think that a bird would try to eat that dog food so that trap was left out and then about an hour later I came around the corner of the side yard and the

wren was stuck in the rat trap by its leg I immediately let it out of the Trap and it fluttered away I did not think I’d ever see it again and then we left for the weekend we went to Issaquah to visit a friend but the camera notifications kept going off and when I checked them it was

the wren it was still hopping around the house in the side yard every morning just as it always had just now it only had one leg so that made me cry a lot I don’t know what we’re going to do about the rats but this morning I put out a plate of sew bird food for this little

guy hopefully he’ll start feeling better I’m calling this rock my Kintsugi Stone because the fractures in it seem to have been healed with this silicate material I can’t wait to cut the next Rock see you soon
