Let’s cut 4 more rocks from the Snoqualmie river!

In this video I cut four more rocks from the middle fork of the Snoqualmie River in Washington state. Our dog Lola is terrified of fireworks, so we went to Rockaway Beach on the Oregon coast for New Year’s to see if that would be a quieter experience.

Hi, I’m Betty. Let’s cut four more rocks from the Snoqualmie River. My husband left me a note asking me if I would cut a rock for him. So, of course, let’s go. Today’s the 2nd of January.

I hope everybody had a wonderful New Year’s. I’ll put some photos at the end of the video of these rocks so that we can all take a closer look. First is the rock that my husband requested. There’s a lot of yellow and orange in this one. I think it’s petrified wood.

I think our second rock looks like it could be petrified wood as well. This rock is so dark on the inside that you can barely see the details. So, I’m going to sit it next to another one in the sunshine and see if it’ll lighten up. We don’t have a whole lot of sunshine right now, but I keep telling myself that it will come back. This rock leaves a reddish-brown streak on porcelain.

I think it’s got a lot of hematite in it. Here I was really trying to rub the oil off the rock and rubbing my eyes, straining to see the detail. After I polished this rock, it did show just a little bit. You’ll see in the photos at the end. Okay, let’s see what’s inside rock number three.

The color on this rock makes me think it might have some limonite in it, but it could be iron staining. This year for New Year’s, we rented an Airbnb at Rockaway Beach. While we were there, we did some rockhounding, and I did bring home a couple of rocks for the next video. We rented the Airbnb because there are a lot of fireworks let off at our house on New Year’s Eve and on the 4th of July. And I don’t mind that at all.

I really love fireworks, but our dog Lola hates fireworks. So, I wanted to take her somewhere quiet. Uh and the beach there are fireworks at the beach, so that didn’t exactly work out. If you have any suggestions for where I should spend 4th of July and New Year’s Eve, let me know. Let’s cut open rock number four.

Now that I’m editing the video, it really looks clearly like a river-tumbled pegmatite. But at the time, I thought this must be an agate. So, let’s cut this pegmatite open. It really is very beautiful. I have more photos of the rocks at the end of this video.

Thank you so much for watching. I can’t wait to cut the next rock. See you soon.
